What kind of device are you reading this article on?
Chances are, it’s a mobile device. More than 50% of all web browsing is now conducted on a mobile device. As more and more individuals are accessing the web via a mobile device, the importance of having a mobile-friendly or “responsive” website also grows.
What is a responsive website?
A responsive website is a website that adjusts its layout and appearance based on the device which is being used to view the website. Several years ago, it was standard to create two versions of a website – one version for desktop computers, and one version for mobile devices (such as phones and tablets). This meant having to do twice the design, twice the content production, and the website typically cost at least twice as much.
Things today are much different. Websites today are designed to “flex” based on the device which is being used to view the site. Site creation tools like WordPress make this a breeze! Images automatically resize themselves, paragraphs will adjust their position and size based on the type of device being used to view the website, and even forms or videos will work across multiple phone types and operating systems.
When using a content platform, such as WordPress, ensure that the theme you are using is “responsive” or “mobile friendly” – one of these phrases will be listed in the theme’s description if the theme is designed to be responsive.
“Why do *I* need a mobile-friendly website?”
Customers today are using their mobile devices more than ever for their online research, particularly when it comes to home buying. When a home buyer is out driving through neighborhoods and looking at homes for sale, do you think they are taking hand-written notes, waiting until they get home before hopping onto their desktop computer and checking-out the related listing’s website?
Absolutely NOT. These customers are pulling-out their cell phones and visiting the listing agent’s website, scanning the QR code on the yard sign, or plugging the address into Zillow.
Clients are going online within minutes of seeing the property.
Is your website ready?
